Confidently speak, read and write Igbo language.

Nnọọ!

Have you ever felt frustrated learning a particular Igbo word only to forget it when standing in front of a native Igbo speaker.

May be you have tried to teach your children Igbo severally only to meet a Waterloo.

Many learners and parents bought books, paid tutors and even made attempts to speak Igbo to people or their children only to discover that their efforts wasn’t yielding their desired result.

Some of these learners and parents resigned to fate. The pain of not speaking Igbo or seeing their children speak Igbo has pushed some into blaming parents, spouses and even relatives for their inability to help out.

Let’s leave the blame game, we are here @nghotaigbo.com to assist and challenge you, so that your Igbo language dream can become a reality.

Our desire is to inspire, encourage and support Igbo learners and parents who wants to learn or teach their children Igbo but doesn’t know how to go about it.

reason Behind

MOTIVATE YOURSELF

There are lots of difficulties and discouragement when learning and teaching Igbo language to learners.

It ranges from pronunciation to misuse of verbs, hearing of new words every day, different dialects, lost of memorized words when speaking, inability to catch up fast with people speaking Igbo,
jest and name calling from native Igbo speakers.

As a parent and Igbo language teacher, bringing out my time and energy to teach learners only for some to look at my face and mockingly tell me “It sounds weird”.

What do you do when your language goals seems to be a daydream? MOTIVATE YOURSELF

You don’t slide to success, you climb! So motivate yourself to climb the Igbo language ladder.

What People Say?

Testimonials from our readers, it’s time for you to learn and speak.

Uju's passion for Igbo language is very contagious. Her passion has made me see need to intentionally speak and teach my children Igbo. Her book Nghọta na Mmụta Asụsụ Igbo has greatly improved their Igbo speaking.

I grew up in Mexico. My my mum is not Igbo and Dad is teaching us as much as he could, but I found verbs very difficult. I visited a friend whose brother sent Nghọta na Mmụta Asụsụ Igbo book from Nigeria, I had to borrow some of the books. Presently with the help of my dad, I am improving on my use of verbs. I can make sentences better than before. This is increasing my Igbo speaking confidence level.

I have bought many Igbo books for my children but they couldn't relate with any of them. Nghọta na Mmụta Asụsụ Igbo is very relatable. My children do the activities even before asking to know the meaning of the words they came across especially the puzzles. Now they are using some of the words which makes teaching easier for me.

When I picked this Igbo book called Nghọta na Mmụta Asụsụ Igbo, I thought it's just like other Igbo books that I have come across but when I opened it from the back, I got captivated by the quotes (Okwu Amamihe). These quotes kept me on my toes, and I had to create an Igbo speaking rule in my house and I made sure I enforce them. My children are now speaking little by little and asking questions on the words they find difficult. Something that they weren't doing before.

Chinedu

My children were challenged first when they saw videos of Uju's children speaking Igbo in Port Harcourt during Omenani Igbo ga-adị competition in June 2020, meanwhile, we here in Onitsha can only hear but can't speak Igbo. Nghọta na Mmụta Asụsụ Igbo book has been of help to them because it simplified Igbo and made it easier for them. Presently they are speaking, reading and writing Igbo to an extent.

My both parents are from Rivers state. Oriaku Bob-Madumere's method of teaching Igbo language makes learning fun and interesting. She does not just teach Igbo, she makes you realise the need to speak your parents language.

Presently I can interact with some of the Igbo people that comes to my Mummy's shop and my exposure to Igbo language learning in school is helping me to speak Ogba (My native language ).
